Product Overview
The PMEM1000 is a large capacity, PCI based memory board that features 5 gigabytes of storage and incorporates the Signatec Auxiliary Bus (SAB). Using the SAB, data can be transferred in or out of the board at up to 500 megabytes per second. The PMEM1000 is ideally suited for expanding the storage capacity of high-speed data acquisition boards such as the PDA1000.
Besides the SAB operation for which it is optimized, data may be written to or read from the PMEM1000 via the PCI bus at up 266 MB/s. A sustained transfer rate of 250MB/s is typical when using Signatec's IC1000 PC system.
Any device implementing the Signatec Auxiliary Bus interface can transfer data to or from the PMEM1000. Up to 4 PMEM1000 boards can be connected on a single SAB to extend data acquisition memory to 20 gigabytes.
The Signatec Auxiliary Bus is a 64-bit bus that can be operated up to a maximum clock rate of 125 MHz. The bus can also be operated as two separate 32-bit buses. One significant application for this is to capture data from a master/slave pair of data acquisition boards operating in 32-bit SAB mode. An example would be a pair of PDA1000s digitizing at up to 500 MHz each.
Operation of the PMEM1000 can be controlled and monitored from either the PCI bus or the SAB. SAB control requires connection to a SAB bus controller such as the PMP1000.
The PMEM1000 has an on-board address counter for controlling the data read/write memory locations. The address counter can be set to the desired starting address for data storage before a transfer begins. When the PMEM1000 is reading data from the Signatec Auxiliary Bus, the address counter determines where in memory the data will be stored, thus allowing multiple data transfers to be held in different PMEM1000 memory locations. When writing data to the Signatec Auxiliary Bus from the PMEM1000, setting the address counter causes the data transfer to begin from the specified address location, avoiding needless transfer of unnecessary data.
Five operating modes are implemented: Standby, PCI Read, PCI Write, SAB Read, and SAB Write. Typically, with the board in Standby mode, the data transfer starting RAM address is set as well as the transfer size. The board is then placed into one of the four active modes and when the amount of data transferred equals the transfer size setting, data transfer is terminated and a flag is set or an interrupt is generated.
